The Apple Watch is the king of the smartwatch market. But let’s face it… it’s expensive! Quality certainly comes at a price.
The new Apple Watch Series 6 can set you back up to £1449, depending on the options chosen. And for most people, it’s way out of their budget. But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. Here we explore how to get your hands on this high-spec tech – without breaking the bank in the process.
4 ways to buy a cheap Apple Watch
1. A refurbished device
In our opinion, this is by far the best way to secure a cheap Apple Watch.
Refurbished devices can be bought from Apple’s own Refurb Store – and, whilst they’re technically ‘second hand’, you won’t be able to tell the difference. Often, they’ve been returned to Apple because the owner has simply changed their mind and wishes to buy a different model. But they’re still rigorously tested to ensure they meet the highest standards, and come with all the accessories.
These are ‘like new’ products that are backed by a one-year warranty and the Apple Certified Refurbished promise. And the best bit? They’re usually 10-15% cheaper than a new device.
There are now two ways to finance an Apple product. The first is via Barclays, who offer instalment plans that span 3-36 months, with a minimum spend of £299. The second is via PayPal Credit, who again allow you to pay monthly – over a 6-24 month period – with a minimum order of £99. Both options have a fixed interest rate of 14.9% and you can get an instant decision on your eligibility.
Financing isn’t necessarily a way to bag a cheap Apple Watch. In fact, you’ll pay more in the long run, as interest is added to the final total. But it is a way to make the device more affordable. You can benefit from the technology now and spread the cost evenly over many months (or even years!).
3. Older models
Now that Series 6 has been released, older models have started to significantly drop in price.
Series 5, in particular, can be snapped up for a bargain. This model is no longer available from the Apple store. But it can still be bought from many retailers (e.g. Currys, Argos, John Lewis). And it offers a fantastic way to secure a new – high spec – Apple Watch at a considerably lower price.
The Apple Watch Series 3 is also still available to buy from the official store. This boasts all of the watch’s core features, and starting from just £199, it’s a much more affordable alternative.
4. Unofficial Apple Watch straps
Aside from the device itself, Apple Watch straps can also be pretty expensive – especially if you purchase them from Apple’s official store. So, if often pays to shop around for these.
Many of these resemble Apple’s most popular styles and will successfully achieve the look you have in mind. They’re fantastic quality. But are available for a bargain price, starting from just £29.99. And if you’re looking to treat yourself to a cheap Apple Watch, with all the accessories, they will allow you to expand your collection of straps – without blowing your budget.
